ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Explore the dance of Shiva/Shakti through sacred chanting & healing yoga sadhana. Dr. Saraswati Markus specializes in the Dao Flow method: a unique blending of Yoga, Chinese medicine & Women’s health. Combined with devotional practice of Kirtan: call & response chanting of ancient mantra, led by Nina Rao. Awaken the authentic & nourish the feminine with two lifelong practitioners of the spiritual path.

This workshop will begin with an introduction and exploration of the Dao flow method. Saraswati will offer a brief introduction and Q&A for the first hour. We’ll move from this conceptual framework into the work of integration, awakening the authentic through a blend of yoga postures and breath led by Saraswati and chanting led by Nina Rao. Appropriate for beginners and up. No prior experience needed.


ABOUT THE TEACHERS

Dr. Saraswati Markus

DR. SARASWATI MARKUS Daoyogini, and Chinese medicine gynecologist, is a thought leader in natural hormonal balance and women’s health. She lectures at medical colleges and specialty conferences worldwide. Her work has recently been featured in Yoga Journal, LA Yoga, Integral Yoga magazine, Spirituality and Health, Mantra Magazine and The Acupuncturist. Dr. Saraswati teaches weekly Dao Flow Yoga classes in Asheville, works with patients in her clinic studio and leads workshops for women that span the whole reproductive arc from fertility enhancement to healthy aging for patients and practitioners. She currently holds positions in both Masters and Doctoral degree programs, and has worked in the field of inner growth and alternative medicine for over 20 years. Nina Rao

NINA RAO  learned traditional chants (bhajans) from her grandfather in a village in south India when she nine years old. The chants quietly stayed with her until she rediscovered chanting with Krishna Das in New York in 1996. Her childhood was spent living in and moving between many countries around the world and when she settled in New York her working life began in the banking world, switched to organizing and leading photographic wildlife safaris in Africa and India, and now for many years, is Krishna Das' business manager and assistant. Nina tours with Krishna Das, playing cymbals and singing with him. In January 2013, she released her debut album, "Antarayaami - Knower of All Hearts". Nina regularly leads kirtan, chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa, and sings for yoga classes in her hometown of Brooklyn, NY and beyond. For more information visit her website.
