Teacher's Survey: Jerome Burdi

Jerome Burdi Brooklyn Yoga School

How long have you been practicing yoga? Five years

Current happy pose? Handstands and hollowbacks

Current nemesis pose? Yoga Nidrasana

What is your favorite food? If I don't have at least one avocado a day I get cranky.

Why do you teach yoga? Yoga has done wonders for me physically, mentally, and spiritually. I like to share it with others.

Elvis Presley or Frank Sinatra?  Jimi Hendrix

One thing you do every day? I rise at 6 am everyday to practice pranayama, meditation, and asana. I also drum daily. (Middle Eastern style on a darbuka.)

Brown Rice or Quinoa? Quinoa. Unless I'm really hungry, then it's brown rice.

What is your favorite bad habit?  Getting caught up in supernatural Netflix series' such as The Walking Dead or American Horror Story.

Good book recommendation? "The Kingdom of God is Within You" by Leo Tolstoy.

What is your best asana tip? See yourself in the pose mentally first. Believe you can do it and practice with all your heart. You will succeed.

What is your favorite yama/niyama? Santosha, aka contentment. This doesn't mean you accept everything. You still have to do your work to achieve what you want, but if something is out of reach, that's OK too. It reminds me of the serenity prayer:
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference."

I like that one.

Anything else you would like to share with us? Be kind
